On Safer Internet Day: National Cyber Security Agency Hosts Cyber Security Awareness Workshops

In its endeavor to build a cyber-safe society and align with the preventive strategy in cyber security adopted by the National Cyber Security Agency, and coinciding with Safer Internet Day, the agency organizes awareness workshops in cyber security. These workshops aim to enhance awareness of safe internet usage practices, equip various segments of society to confront cyber threats and educate them on how to respond in case of online fraud or phishing attempts.
The awareness workshops organized by the agency on Safer Internet Day - observed annually on February 7th - signify a commitment to the preventive strategy in cyber security embraced by the National Cyber Security Agency. The agency aims to address cyber risks before they escalate into attacks.
Engineer Abdulrahman bin Ali Al-Faraidi Al-Maliki, the head of the National Cyber Security Agency, stated that the agency continuously seeks to keep pace with international cybersecurity and digital safety developments. In this regard, international institutions seize various opportunities to bolster global awareness of cybersecurity concepts. The National Cyber Security Agency endeavors to align its awareness activities with these international occasions. This underscores the agency's conviction that Qatar's cyberspace is interconnected with global cyberspace, aiming to bolster Qatar's stature as a pioneering nation in promoting awareness of cyber security and digital safety concepts.
Ms. Dalal Al-Aqidi, Director of the National Cyber Excellence Management, emphasized that Safer Internet Day underscores the heightened international interest in safe usage practices, particularly in light of the increasing cyber threats faced by various countries globally, spanning governments, institutions, communities, and individuals. This commitment is central to the National Cyber Security Agency, which actively engages in diverse awareness events and initiatives. These encompass tailored programs for students and children, such as cyber security educational curricula and the "Cyber Eco" school visit project. Additionally, the agency is spearheading the launch of the National Cyber Security Academy and implementing a digital safety strategy. Furthermore, it routinely conducts cyber security awareness workshops for non-specialist employees in government and private institutions who lack proficiency in cyber security or information technology.
It is noteworthy that Safer Internet Day is an international event established in 2004 within the European Union. It subsequently evolved into an international day celebrated annually on February 7th across 190 countries worldwide. The objective is to amplify global awareness regarding the significance of safe internet usage practices, a mission actively pursued by Qatar's National Cyber Security Agency.
